Richard Galawan, RMT

Born and raised in Richmond, Richard grew up with an active lifestyle that included involvement in competitive martial arts, soccer, and baseball. He was introduced to massage therapy due to multiple injuries and a physically demanding landscape construction job. What he learned about his body and the positive changes he felt with treatments brought him to change his career to massage therapy. He wanted to make as much of a difference that his RMT made for him. This is the background Richard relies on to meet patient needs and assist in their recovery.

Richard graduated with honours from the Vancouver Career College Registered Massage Therapy diploma program in 2016, and joined the team at Back to Health. Richard is keen in helping people recover their strength, flexibility, and a overall balance to the body. To accomplish this, he combines an array of techniques including Swedish and deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint mobilizations and muscle energy techniques. Through assessment and treatment he works with his patients to achieve their goals. Richard strives to maintain a calm, relaxed treatment environment where patients can leave their stresses behind and focus on themselves. During treatments, homecare is provided to help maintain in between appointments as well as allowing patients to take ownership of their health and wellbeing.

A passion for anatomy and health drives Richard to seek further education in Myofascial Release, Fascial Stretch Therapy, Ligamentous Articular Strain Technique, Anatomy Trains and Structural Integration. Away from the clinic Richard can be found with his family at the many parks and playgrounds around Richmond, hiking and snowshoeing on the North Shore, and camping all over BC.
